In another post, I write about plotting charts in blog posts generated by static site generator Zola. Here I apply the technique to look at Google Ads performance data. Nothing sophisticated. I just want to follow the daily impressions trend for Asset-based Ad Extensions since the start of 2022 as mandated auto migration begins.

I want to explore rendering charts via static site generators. Here are a couple of libraries that are easy to integrate with Zola.

In this post, I plot open data from NYC 311 call records using:

• chart.xkcd - a chart library that plots “sketchy”, “cartoony” or “hand-drawn” styled charts.

• vega-lite - a high-level grammar of interactive graphics.

I kinda had to learn Rust, because I sucked at C/C++ so badly. Once beyond the fun phase of copy-and-paste Adruino programming, my fascination with microcontrollers inevitably threw me back into the C/C++ nightmare of my college years. I could do Java/Scala/Python, but still clueless about how to properly manipulate strings in C/C++. So Rust was kinda my lifeboat.

Looking at the blogging plans I wrote down for 2021, I feel embarassed, and somewhat defeated. What I have learned is this:

• keep working on the process. that basically means managing my energy levels by: sleeping earlier (less time reading news); eat light dinner; don't check work email/slack and dive into hobby projects first thing in the morning.
